My work has evolved through the love and fascination of rural landscapes.
Over the years I have established a strong connection with arable fields which I photograph, fields with an identity, named Home Field, Cottage Field, Corner, Middle and Long Field.
Ever changing texture, colour, markings, shapes, rhythms, sounds and smell, passing through seasons, and years, continuous beginnings, completeness and endings.
In my paintings I explore the underlying energy, the layers above and below ground. I reveal what is hidden, almost digging the earth myself or diving into the water.
I paint the stillness of the wait and the explosion of growth, the bare earth holding all past experiences and future potential.
I use the inkjet photographs as a painting medium, combined with acrylic paint, soft pastels and plaster.
